Endowment Giving

Leaving a Chautauqua Lake Legacy

What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving is a method of supporting the CLA’s future services that enables you, the donor, to make larger gifts than typically could be made from your annual disposable income. The benefits of funding a planned gift can make charitable giving very attractive to a donor and CLA by maximizing the gift and helping to minimize its impact on the donor’s estate while honoring a loved one’s memory. A planned gift is any gift, made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning.

The CLA currently holds four existing endowment funds actively managed by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Earnings are used annually to assist with CLA expenses. A donor can designate a gift to any one of the named endowment funds. Gifts can be made directly to CRCF on CLA’s behalf or given to the lake association. If a gift is received by CLA and doesn’t indicate a specific fund, the gift will be used to support the Chautauqua Lake Association Fund:

  • The Chautauqua Lake Association Fund
Designed to provide unrestricted support for annual lake maintenance services and off-season preventive maintenance while upholding the Mission of the CLA.
  • The Julis & Ruth Weinstein Endowment Fund
Designed to support the training and employment of young adults working on CLA’s summer crews.
  • The Scientific & Public Education Fund
Designed to support annual scientific monitoring in addition to supporting public outreach programs.
  • The Eric Westrom Fund
Designed to support operations and the upkeep and replacement of equipment.

The CLA regularly receives memorials on behalf of persons who have died or occasionally to honor a living person.

Those donations are acknowledged by the CLA and then deposited in the Chautauqua Lake Association Fund at CRCF. Similarly to the endowment donations, persons can also send memorials or honoraries directly to CRCF.

If a person wants the memorial/Honoria to go towards the Annual Fund Drive instead of to the Endowment, such should be specified on the donation and the donation should be sent only to our office.
