The Chautauqua Lake Association’s harvest reports are published weekly once our season begins. These reports outline when and how much activity the CLA records on the lake each week.
Weekly Work Summary
Week of September 7-11, 2026
The CLA’s in-lake activities are complete. What a difference a year can make. We were lucky this summer — Mother Nature was kind to us. We are not expecting the same for next summer and are already making plans so we are prepared for whatever nature brings.
This week the harvesters finished the west shore from the Sportsman’s Club south to Ashville Bay, then moved equipment back to the CLA shop to be pulled, washed, and winterized. Once everything is out of the water, we will begin pulling machines into the shop to perform the necessary repairs. With a fleet like ours, that keeps the shop hard at work throughout the fall and winter.
While they are active in the shop, our office stays diligent preparing grants and planning fundraisers for next season, completing final reports for this year, and planning for next year. Though it may be a bit quieter, we are plenty busy!
Once again, thank you all for your continued support and collaboration. It has been amazing to see all we can accomplish when we work together!
LOAD COUNT
This week: 4 large truckloads removed (approximately 40 tons, or 80,000 pounds)
Season total: 313 large truckloads removed (approximately 3,130 tons, or 6,260,000 pounds)
Thank you! Have a great fall and winter. See you in the spring!
Week of August 31-September 4, 2026
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Weather was definitely a factor this week, but crews were out there working to keep Chautauqua Lake and its shores clean for everyone to enjoy. Due to the storms, we did not accomplish as much of the work plan as we had hoped, but we will finish up next week.
The south harvesting crew completed the west shore from Burtis Bay to Ashville Bay and worked through the Celoron narrows and marina area.
The mid-lake and north crews worked together this week from Long Point south to Driftwood, then from the bridge north to the Stow ferry.
The mobi crew continued from the Vikings north through Dewittville Bay and to Knight Road in Hartfield Bay.
Next week we will complete the remaining routes, then head back to the CLA shop for cleaning and winterizing of the equipment. It’s been a great year! Thank you all for your continued support and collaboration. Things get accomplished when we all work together!

Week of May 11-15, 2026
What a week to be on the water. Crews fought the wind, rain, and cold temperatures early in the week before sunshine arrived today. Despite Mother Nature, it was a productive week on the lake.
The debris crew finished up on Wednesday, removing dangerous woody debris from the lake.
A total of 16 truckloads were removed!
Once the debris work was complete, those crew members were transitioned to in-lake equipment operators, joining the harvesting crew.
The harvesting crew worked mid-lake this week.
Along the east shore, they worked from the casino south through Oriental Park to Bemus Creek, and north from Long Point to the Vikings Club.
Along the west shore, they worked through Hadley Bay, north through the Stow narrows to Whitney Bay, and on to Chautauqua Institution.
Four large truckloads were removed! That’s 40 tons, or 80,000 pounds.
Please note: herbicide applications were completed in several locations along the east shore. CLA has been asked to avoid those sites for two weeks. Once the two weeks are up, crews will again be servicing those areas.
Have a great weekend. See you all next week on the water!
2025 Work Summary
The 2025 season on Chautauqua Lake began with an intensive focus on debris removal. Throughout May, CLA crews cleared hazardous logs and storm-driven debris from the shoreline, ultimately removing over 40 truckloads. As conditions allowed, operators began early harvesting of navigational channels in unregulated areas while preparing equipment, training new crew members, and coordinating with ongoing lake science initiatives, including the Jefferson Project.
By early June, full harvesting operations were underway. Crews worked lake-wide (north, mid-lake, and south), cutting channels, clearing docks, skimming floating vegetation, and maintaining high-traffic recreational areas. Weekly totals quickly climbed into the tens of truckloads as growth surged, with Mobi units providing flexible, near-shore support on both shores. Even during short holiday weeks or weather disruptions, staff consistently adapted routes to meet the lake’s most urgent needs.
Through July and August, vegetation removal intensified, particularly in the southern basin, where rapid plant growth required multi-crew coordination day after day. During several peak weeks, CLA teams removed well over 100 truckloads, with some weeks nearing or surpassing two million pounds of vegetation. Crews worked continuously through Burtis Bay, Sherman’s Bay, Celoron, Lakewood, Hartfield, and Long Point, while also assisting with Starry Stonewort mitigation projects. Shore crews, harvesters, and Mobi teams collectively kept navigational channels open and shoreline areas usable for residents and visitors.
As the season wound down in September, crews continued to tackle the large mid-lake mass before transitioning to equipment removal and winterization. By the final week in-lake, the CLA had removed more nuisance plants and debris from Chautauqua Lake than in any previous year under current leadership — more than 1,200 large truckloads and nearly 90 small truckloads, representing over 24 million pounds of vegetation and debris. The season’s success was the result of coordinated effort, responsive adjustments to lake conditions, and strong community support.
The CLA removed 24,378,000 POUNDS of nuisance aquatic vegetation from Chautauqua Lake in 2025!
