Johnson Memorial Trust Donates $10,000 to CLA

JOHNSONPictured are Paul W. Swanson, General Manager of the Chautauqua Lake Association and Carole Sellstrom, Executive Director of the john Alfred and Oscar Johnson Memorial Trust.  The trust donated $10,000 to the CLA towards the 2013 mandated FCC radio upgrade. This upgrade ensures that the CLA is in compliance with the new federal ruling.

Being in constant contact with the crews is vital for the General Manger; summer storms can approach quickly on the lake. Crews can be warned immediately to go to shore out of harm’s way.  Instant communication is also needed in case of an emergency.  Each piece of equipment has a radio.  These radios are helpful for operational efficiency, making it very easy for harvesters and barges to communicate with transporters and dump sites. The CLA currently has 6 harvesters, 3 transports and 3 barges working 10 hours a day, 5 days a week in 3 areas of the lake, Mayville, Bemus Point and Lakewood.

The CLA is grateful for the continued support of the Johnson Foundation.
