Today, our Harvesting crews assisted owners – like you – with the burden of removing growing and floating vegetation.
Thank you for your interest in supporting the Chautauqua Lake Association’s mission to serve as the steward of Chautauqua Lake. The work we undertake throughout the season assists in keeping the lake safe, clean and ecologically healthy.
Keeping our lake usable requires labor, heavy machinery, research and of course, money! Although the CLA receives funding from private foundations, we rely on contributions from individuals and local businesses.
The CLA has demonstrated that with proper funding, the enormous task of keeping the lake safe, clean and usable can be done. Every tax deductible donation made to the CLA is an investment in Chautauqua Lake, one of the primary resources for tourism in our county.

Benefits of Harvesting
- Harvesting reduces nutrient delaying algae growth (for every 1 ton of vegetation removed, 1 pound of phosphorus is also removed.)
- Harvesting effectively rids your waterfront of vegation creating navigational channels and opening boating lanes.
- It creates a more conducive environment for swimming and pleasure use.
- Harvesting scales back vegetation to healthier levels– enhancing the oxygen levels need for all living organisms found in Chautauqua Lake.
- It significantly imporves the quality of the bottom of the lake by reducing the volume of muck, sediment and silt.
- Selective harvesting allows plant habitat to remain enhancing the fishery.
- Harvested weeds make an excellent fertilizer on land.
As water depth and spacing allows, all developed areas are harvested around docs and navigational channels are made.
