In a July 10 article, The Post-Journal reported that the Chautauqua Lake Watershed and Management Alliance is moving forward on a coordinated plan to address starry stonewort, an invasive algae that has become more prevalent in areas like Ashville Bay and Prendergast Point in recent years.
As GEI Consultants work to develop management strategies and gather new data on the lake, the CLA will once again play a supporting role on the water. This season, the CLA is providing a barge for the diver-assisted suction harvesting team, along with support for the mobi and skimmer removal actions. Once the starry stonewort is collected, the CLA will also haul it away.
